Tackling Complexity to Create a Bug Free Paradise

This project stands out as one of our most complex yet rewarding endeavors. The goal was straightforward: create a completely bug-free screen room for a 7,500 sq. ft. stucco home. However, achieving this required overcoming significant challenges due to the home's unique construction and the demanding design specifications.

Challenges:

• Stucco Construction: The stucco exterior made securing the framing particularly challenging. We needed to find solid wood backing through the layers of stucco, requiring screws up to 6 inches long to penetrate the framing bar, stucco, and finally the wood. Locating and securing to the wood backing was a meticulous and time-intensive task.
• Complex Features:
• The room included a peaked area that needed precise screening.
• Below the peak, we installed a motorized screen to provide seamless functionality.
• Additional challenges included navigating around a built-in BBQ area and working with multiple posts, which required post boots and careful alignment.
• High Degree of Difficulty: Rated a 10/10 for complexity, the job demanded innovative solutions to overcome obstacles and ensure the structure’s integrity.
  

Our Solution:

Through perseverance and ingenuity, we tackled each challenge:

• Structural Stability: We carefully located and secured wood backing behind the stucco, ensuring a sturdy and reliable framework for the screen room.
• Custom Features:
• Installed a motorized 20-ft screen beneath the peak for ease of use and enhanced functionality.
• Created fixed screen walls on both sides to ensure a fully enclosed, bug-free environment.
• Worked around the BBQ area with precision to maintain the room’s functionality and aesthetic appeal.

The completed screen room features two doors, a 20-ft motorized screen, and fixed screen walls on both sides, providing a flawless bug-free experience. This transformation has turned the previously bird-and-bat-dominated space into a people-friendly haven. With the screens in place, the homeowners can enjoy the room year-round without the nuisance of mosquitoes and other pests.
